These planters are made from high-quality Corten-A sheet steel. This type of metal has the unique property of forming a very dense oxide skin (rust layer). Rusting is impossible. Due to the dense oxide skin, the deeper material is shielded from oxygen, which greatly delays oxidation? ? while corrosion continues. The natural fixed coating of rust provides protection against further corrosion. During the weathering process the Corten Steel produces carbon run off which can stain adjacent materials such as stone or concrete. To reduce this possible staining, all products have small feet, lifting the planter and preventing direct contact with the flooring material. After the initial reactive period Corten Steel will cure and self-seal with little to no carbon run off.
Care & Maintenance/Outdoor Planting Instructions: If used outdoors, it is recommended that an appropriate sealer is applied to maintain the surface finish and prevent oxidation. If not sealed, the planters will darken and rust. Note, if oxidation occurs, rust may leach onto the ground surface with the potential to stain.
